How does Santa Claus know who has been good? Scout elves fly to the North Pole every night in the weeks leading up to Christmas to report to Santa Claus. The next morning, they return to the family and hide in a different place in the house. Can the Elf on the Shelf stay with the family all year round? After the holidays, the scout elves must return to the North Pole to prepare for next year's Christmas. Once back at the North Pole, they share their stories with the other elves, do flight training and help Santa and his wife. On special occasions, Father Christmas gives the elves permission to return to the family's home throughout the year. According to tradition, a scout elf loses its magic when touched by human hands. However, they can be moved around safely when they are in the gift box. Once the elf has been adopted and given a name, it must not be touched.
